New Community Piano Comes to Main Street
October 10, 2025 Old Saybrook, CT—The Town of Old Saybrook Economic Development Commission (EDC) is pleased to announce that the new community piano will make its debut on Friday, October 17th, from 5:00-6:00 pm in front of Fred Astaire Dance Studio at 174 Main Street. Please join the commission for light refreshments and lively entertainment as it celebrates the return of a piano to Main Street and those who helped to make the project happen.
The community piano was painted by local artist Magdalena “Maggie” Ashe and will be hosted by Fred Astaire Dance Studio on Main Street. The piano was donated by a family member of one of the commissioners and H.A. Latham, a local moving company, delivered the piano from Massachusetts to the Old Saybrook Town Hall where it was transformed from a plain piano to one representing Old Saybrook’s unique character. The Town’s Public Works Department did some repairs to the piano to get it ready for a life on Main Street and transported it from the Town Hall to its new home in front of Fred Astaire.
The color choice on the piano is meant to tie in with the EDC’s ongoing downtown marketing campaign: Say Old Saybrook. The designs selected include both of the town’s signature lighthouses as well as shoreline birds and a dancing couple in honor of the host business. The new piano replaces one that the commission sponsored beginning in 2016.
