Full-Time Marketing Manager

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (the Kate), seeks a highly motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Marketing Manager to maintain and grow the Kate's marketing strategies as well as identify new and creative opportunities for the Center’s 300+ yearly events and dedicated Katharine Hepburn Museum.  The position will also be responsible for leading the Kate’s brand and setting the tone across multiple platforms.
 
The Marketing Manager reports to the Executive Director and works in tandem with the Director of Development & Community Relations and Box Office Manager. 
 
The Kate has a very team-oriented atmosphere with staff frequently overlapping in duties and responsibilities. Someone who thrives in a team environment and is willing to step up and out of their direct responsibilities will excel at the Kate.
 
Responsibilities:
 

  • Strategic Planning:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to increase audience engagement and ticket sales across all Kate events, fundraisers, education programs, and the Katharine Hepburn Museum.
    • Conduct market research to identify target audiences, analyze competitor strategies, and identify emerging trends.
    • Set marketing goals and objectives, develop budgets, and track performance against key metrics.
    • Work with agents and artist on show specific marketing plans dictated by sales needs.
 
  • Digital & Print Marketing:
    • Manage digital marketing channels, including website, social media, email marketing, and online advertising.
    • Create engaging content for various platforms, including website copy, social media posts, email campaigns and newsletters, and promotional materials.
    • Optimize online advertising campaigns (e.g., Google Ads, social media ads) to maximize reach and engagement.
    • Analyze website traffic, social media engagement, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement.
    • Analyze and asses where print media is still effective v. digital marketing given audience demographics related to specific shows and events.
 
  • Website:
    • Manage the Kate’s website and ensure dynamic and engaging content through copy and imagery.
    • Work in parallel with the box office to ensure show materials are presented through a Kate lens and with a Kate voice.
 
  • Content Creation & Graphic Design:
    • Manage the creative process to develop compelling marketing materials, including brochures, posters, and online content.
    • Write press releases, social media updates, and other promotional materials to generate media coverage and build brand awareness.
    • While larger graphic projects may be outsourced to a graphic designer, it is strongly preferred that this individual has graphic design familiarity and rudimentary skills for quick daily needs and edits.
 
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including staff, artists’ agents/managers, partners, and media outlets.
    • Coordinate marketing efforts with vendors and other departments including Box Office and Development.
 
  • Event Promotion:
    • Develop and execute marketing plans for special events, such as the annual summer gala, Oscar Party, workshops, and outreach programs.
    • Manage event promotion through various channels, including social media, email marketing, and print advertising. 
 
  • Other:
    • As part of a team, suggest and create branded merchandise for the Katharine Hepburn Gift Shop.
    • Have great interest in supporting the overall mission and team at the Kate.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Education:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
 
  • Experience:
3+ years of experience in marketing, preferably in the arts or entertainment industry.
 
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of digital marketing principles and best practices.
    • Proficiency in using marketing tools and platforms, including social media management software, email marketing platforms, and analytics tools.
    • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, InDesign, Photo Shop, and/or Illustrator.  
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to inform marketing decisions.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Creative and innovative thinking with the ability to develop engaging marketing campaigns.
  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to promoting the Kate’s mission and values.
  • Experience with CRM systems and database management a plus.
 
 
While no single individual will likely possess all of these qualifications, a decision will be made by evaluating the attributes each candidate does possess in conjunction with the priorities of the organization.
 
The right candidate may have the flexibility to work remotely some of the time.  Additionally some nights and weekends to support the theater’s operations and events will be required.
This Full-Time, Exempt position is available immediately. Competitive salary beginning at $65,000. The Kate offers a benefit package including health, dental, and disability insurance and a Simple IRA match at the beginning of employee’s third calendar year.

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (the Kate) is a not-for-profit performing arts organization located in the historic theatre/town
 hall at 300 Main Street, Old Saybrook. Originally opened in 1911, and reopened as the Kate in 2009, the building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.   The Kate encompasses a state-of-the-art 285-seat theatre and presents work in several genres including music, theater, opera, dance, comedy, film, and a variety of children’s programing.  The official Katharine Hepburn Museum is on the first floor and is the only museum of its kind dedicated to the legacy of the iconic actress and one of Old Saybrook’s most celebrated residents. The museum presents an authentic view of the cultural and historical impact of Miss Hepburn and her family through photos, home movies, costumes, awards, movie memorabilia and other items.
