For centuries music played a central role in Celtic cultures. And for centuries there were attempts to eradicate those culture’s instruments and music. This program will highlight ancient Irish tunes and historic research from three volumes of the Edward Bunting Collection, first published in 1796. Bunting, only 19 years old, was commissioned in 1792 to travel throughout Ireland to capture in written form traditional Irish music before it was forever lost. Entwyned will perform and describe the joyous, wistful, and rollicking music of Ireland and the Celtic nations that we’ve arranged and adapted to our instruments: Celtic harp, lutes, mandolin, Baroque flute, and Viola da Gamba. This 75-minute presentation will include over 20 delightful tunes that accompany the historic information and beautiful photos of Ireland.
